Choosing Your Material
Not all 3D prints are created equal. Depending on whether your project is sitting on a shelf, fighting in a D&D campaign, or working as a functional part in your garage, the material matters. Here is our guide to the plastics we use at Fair Maiden Fidgets.
| Material | Best For… | Durability | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| PLA (Standard) | Models, Fidgets, D&D Terrain | Moderate | Highest detail. Best colors. Not heat resistant (will warp in a hot car). |
| PETG | Functional parts, Garden tools | High | The “Goldilocks” plastic. Chemical resistant and handles the Australian sun much better than PLA. |
| ABS / ASA | Automotive parts, Outdoor gear | Very High | Strong and heat resistant. ASA is UV-stable (won’t fade or get brittle outside). |
| Resin | Miniatures & Jewelry | Fragile/High Detail | Unbeatable detail. Best for painting. Brittle if dropped—handle with care! |
☀️ The “Hot Car” Test
If you live in Melbourne, you know how hot a car gets in January. PLA will soften and warp at 60°C. If you are printing a phone holder or a car part, we strongly recommend PETG or ASA to ensure your print keeps its shape.
♻️ Eco-Friendly Choice
PLA is our default because it is derived from renewable resources like corn starch. It’s the most environmentally friendly option for decorative items and gaming miniatures.
